My neice was married last year and her photographer was very good. The one surprising thing was my brother in law took some pictures with his digital camera and they turned out much nicer than the photographers photos.   His pictures were free on top of that!

For my sons wedding we decided to just ask my brother in law if he would take the photos. He is getting a new disc for his camera and once the photos are taken, he will give the disk to the kids and they can decide which photos they want for their album.

This is a great way to save alot of money on the wedding expense.

I also have friend that is a very good photographer. She took out pictures and they turned out great.  Friends usually don`t charge you either lol.

When you find a friend, they usually will make that their gift to you.  I think they are better at taking the pictures you would want because they know the bride and groom.

We had a professional take our pictures and we are glad we did.  A couple of our friends had relatives and friends take their pictures a couple of years ago and they are still waiting.  We wanted to get the best record of our wedding since when it is occuring you really don't get to see it all like the guests do.  It was really great reliving the wedding by looking a 4000 shots and a video. Now I know what really happened.

I guess the choice would depend on whether or not we can trust our friend(s) to take the type of pictures that we would want. I used my friends and they had some shots. Funny thing is, I haven't even looked at any of those pictures after my wedding. I guess I never really cared much for pictures and since my husband was the most important thing during the wedding and he is always around, I'd rather look at the real thing everyday, lol.

Yes however keep in mind you need to make sure that the friend is capable of taking photos instead of sitting there and watching. One of my friends recently married and her best friend was supposed to take the photos, she ended up with less than 30 photos. The friend kept watching instead of taking the photos!

I'm lucky that I have several friends who are photographers and shoot weddings on a regular basis. I already have one of them booked. She takes amazing pictures and will be doing it as my wedding present...I couldn't ask for a better gift!

I actually do photography in my spare time and so I have some photographer friends who will be doing mine, also for our wedding present. If I didn't though unless I knew the person's work I wouldn't just trust anyone these are photos you will never be able to get again.

That is so true. Weddings are such an important, life changing experiences and hopefully a once in a lifetime event. They are something you want amazing pictures of so that you have your memories captured just as though you remember them.

My father did some photography and it was really difficult for him to let anyone else take pictures for us. It's good that you have someone that you trust, so that you can enjoy your big day.
