When my sister eloped a few years ago, she took pictures of herself and her husband holding a sign that said "we eloped!" Then she sent it out to everyone along with an invitation to a big reception to be held two months later. I thought it was a cute way to announce their elopement.

That is very cute!  When my sister eloped, she just came home and announced that she was married.  We weren't really surprised, but mom was a little upset that she wasn't at the ceremony.
My mom threw them a reception a few months later also so we could all celebrate with them.

Very cute idea for an invitation to the reception.

Many moms are upset when their kids elope. I loved the line on the old television program, Rosanne. When Roseanne's daughter came back home after eloping Roseanne screamed that she would have liked to have at least had some wedding cake.

Are weddings for us or for our parents?

I think eloping is better ,Given the high cost of a wedding, and the prominence of celebrities ,this might be an option worth considering....

It was really nice elopement. Then, what did your parents say to them? Sometimes it would be better to do this especially if the people around you are againts your relationship. LOL!

That's such a cute idea! I've heard of more and more people skipping the big wedding and throwing a great reception later. It's a great idea if you don't care for the formality of a ceremony.

I can't help to chuckle after reading the first post of this thread. It is an ingenious idea as well as funny. If I also get the chance, I will surely remember that example and improvise on my own with my girlfriend.
