Have any of you gone shopping for dresses with your bridesmaids? I recently took 2 of the girls and let's just say they have completely different tastes. I think I may just pick the color and let them each choose their own style of dress with some guidelines to go by. I, of course, will approve the dresses first! =)

We all have different tastes, but in my opinion, bridesmaids shouldn't be too picky when it comes to their dresses. It is, after all, your wedding and you should have the last word. You have a wonderful idea about choosing the color and giving them the choice for the style. Though I believe it would be nice if they both chose similar styles - two completely different styles may look a little tacky after all. I hope it won't be too hard for you all to come to an agreement :)

Ellie, I think that is the best way to get the bridesmaid dresses.  Just give them the color you want and the length and let them choose what they like. This way they don't feel they are purchasing a dress just for one occasion too. They may find a dress they can wear to other events since they can pick something for their style.

Yes Ellie, great decision. I have seen an entourage with different types of gown but only one shade and gown material, it looked wonderful, just like a gown fashion show. But the bride should always be the best dressed.

Yes, I would definitely go with the same shade (assuming that they can agree on that!). If you have a particular theme for a wedding, like a medieval theme, then different sorts of dresses might fit the bill. For a more traditional wedding, I think that some consistency is expected.

Luckily, 'we have found a gown that suits everyone and is fairly wearable after the wedding, but we're going casual.

One of my friends just got very simple J Crew dresses that were navy colored and knee-ish length.  I think that worked well because they were classic and looked good on everyone.  I haven't had to work with my bridesmaids yet though on dresses, so I'm not sure what I'll do when it comes down to it.
