I thought that at the reception, the minister who performed the wedding would say a blessing before the food was served.  When I mentioned this to my son, he freaked out!  He said that he doesn't want a blessing said at the reception.

What are your thoughts on this?

Well, I can take it or leave it. In my family people always pray before eating so even if the minister didn't say one, one of my busy body aunts would get up and ask "who is going to offer the blessing?"

I think it should be up to the bride and groom. If they don't want a prayer then the guests are free to pray silently.

I have been to many wedding receptions and for the life of me I can't remember a prayer being said before dinner.  Isn't that terrible that I can't remember it.  Many of those receptions were Catholic marriages too.  I say let your son and his fiance make this decision.  There are prayers said at the wedding.

I guess, the blessing of food is different, that is given during mass. Well, of course, they are both blessing, but here in our place it's already our tradition to say the prayers before eating. This is to offer thanks to the Lord for that blessing. do have this tradition too, guys?

My husband's grandfather did our blessing before we ate. My husband's side of the family is really religous but my side is not so it was kind of an uncomfortable moment but I'm glad it happened. I think it is totally up to the bride and groom whether or not they want to have the blessing and if people don't want to participate in that then they have the option to step out of the room.
