My father had passed away before I was married.  I chose to have my fathers brother walk me down the isle.  Looking back, I wish that I had asked my mother to walk me down instead.

Has anyone had their mother walk them down the isle instead of their father?

No, I didn't have my mother walk me down, but I did have my grandfather walk me down. I never knew my biological father and I did not have a good relationship with my step-dad.  I really wanted to walk alone, but people kind of pressured me to have someone walk with me, so I chose my grandfather.

My dad walked me down the aisle. But if I didn't have my dad, I would probably ask my mom. She is the only other person that is closest next to my dad and since both of my grandparents have passed, I think she would have been the best choice. It is strange though, I have never seen any brides walking down the aisle with their moms. I have been to two wedding where the fathers could not be present and in one of them, the bride chose her uncle, in the other one, it was an old family friend.

I was at a wedding this summer where the bride had her mom walk her down the aisle.  She is a single mom, raised her daughter on her own her whole life.  I thought it was such a great idea that she had her mom give her away.

In most weddings that I attend, both parents walk down the aisle with the bride, and with the groom for that matter. I have also seen a wedding with the bride's mom giving away the bride. It was touching.

My father will be walking me down the aisle however, if he was not present I would definitely ask my mother. I think all that matters is what is in the heart and what you want. I am sorry about your father by the way.
