Who is doing what?

Normally everybody wants to get involved in our wedding ceremony. I wonder how to decide whom should be asked to do what. Do you have any experience about it? Did you decide it yourself, or did you just get them together and let them share the roles by themselves?
It would be better to get them together and agree on what roles each one should take. this will also avoid duplication of assignments. You have no idea about what each of them could do to help and you may give the wrong assignment to the wrong person.
